Scholarships


The following scholarships are available to students registered in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences through the generosity of alumni, faculty, staff, friends, organizations, and foundations. Scholarship amounts vary and are awarded through the Office of Financial Aid in conjunction with the department or program administrator. In most cases, it is not necessary to submit special applications for particular scholarships, providing that a financial aid application has been filed. Many scholarships have a GPA requirement for renewal. Not all scholarships are awarded each year. Ralph Bergen Allen Memorial Scholarship.
  Established by Dr. Phillip (CCAS'57) and Mrs. Penny Larsen in memory of Dr. Ralph Bergen Allen, a beloved professor at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to students with financial need who are already attending the Camden College of Arts and Sciences or University College-Camden.

Ralph and Marion Arbuckle Scholarship.
  Established by Dr. Georgia Arbuckle-Keil (CCAS'83) in honor of her parents. Awarded to a full-time, first-year student in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences upon his or her graduation from Palmyra High School in Palmyra, NJ. Preference to students majoring or with an interest in the sciences and/or the arts.

Baratz and Associates Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by Brian Baratz (CCAS'72), Ray Giunta (CCAS'80), Clifford Simmons (CCAS'81), and Francis Mulroy (CCAS'85), all of Baratz and Associates, to support students in the Honors College at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time undergraduate Camden College of Arts and Sciences students in the Honors College who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

Dr. Leonard Bidwell Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by Dr. Leonard Bidwell's children, Nicholas Bidwell and Dr. Sylvia Bidwell (DC'90), and their mother, Eva Bidwell, in memory of his dedication to teaching mathematics at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences majoring in mathematics, with preference to students participating in the Putnam or other national mathematics competitions or who otherwise exhibit exceptional talent and promise in the field.

Camden International Studies Scholarship. 
This fund will support students who have enrolled as first-year students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences and have a 3.5 cumulative average at the beginning of the year in which they want to take an international studies course. Each student will receive a one-time $500 grant to be used toward the cost of the associated trip in their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

Richard A. Caulk Memorial Scholarship.
  Established by the family and friends of Dr. Richard Caulk, a brilliant historian of Ethiopia and a member of the Department of History at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded each spring to an undergraduate student in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences in his or her junior year majoring in history, with preference to a student demonstrating the desire to strive for the intellectual excellence that Dr. Caulk displayed in his own career.

Miriam Thomas Chaplin Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by C. Edward Chaplin (RC'78) in honor of his mother Dr. Miriam Thomas Chaplin, professor emerita and former chair of the English department at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences majoring in English with a GPA of at least 3.0. Preference to students considering a career in teaching.

Chemistry Alumni Scholarship.  This annual scholarship was initiated by Sid Katz to be awarded to Camden College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students majoring in chemistry.

John C. Collier Research Scholarship. 
To provide financial assistance to students enrolled at the Camden Campus of Rutgers University to support research by undergraduate students in chemistry.

Dorothy and David Cooper Scholarship.  Established in memory of Dorothy and David Cooper and Dorothy's late parents, Sylvia and Paul Markum, for an endowed scholarship for undergraduate students majoring in psychology.

Saul J. and Consuelo Diaz Scholarship. 
In order to increase diversity, scholarships are to be awarded to traditionally underrepresented minority undergraduate students based on academic merit as determined by the program administrator and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Qualified students must submit the appropriate university-approved financial aid form each year to be eligible for an award.

Earl J. Evans Memorial Scholarship. 
This annual scholarship is established in memory of Earl J. Evans by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori L. and Michael W. Chewkanes to provide financial assistance to students enrolled at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Scholarships are to be awarded to Camden College of Arts And Sciences students majoring in criminal justice, sociology, or urban studies.

Florence P. Goodwin Scholarship
.
  Established by Bonnie Dodd (CCAS'69) in honor of her mother. Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student at Rutgers-Camden who attended Camden High School or a Camden city high school with priority to women and students studying business administration.

Richard C. Goodwin Scholarship in Honor of Ethel Lawrence.  Established by Richard C. Goodwin in honor of Ethel Lawrence and her role in New Jersey's landmark Mt. Laurel decision regarding affordable housing. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences with an interest in pursuing a career or involved in the areas of affordable housing, community service, or urban studies. Candidates must submit a résumé and essay describing these interests.
 
Gulick/Coleman Scholarship.
  Established by Assistant Dean Nancy V. Gulick (DC'72, GSC'82) and Professor Emeritus Charles J. Coleman to support students at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to a full-time junior or senior undergraduate student in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences majoring in musical theater or theater arts who has performed in or assisted with several Rutgers-Camden theater productions as an actor, assistant director, or a member of the technical crew.

Stephen and Nancy Hovnanian Endowed Scholarship. 
This endowed scholarship is established by Stephen and Nancy Hovnanian to provide financial assistance to nontraditional undergraduate students in University College-Camden majoring in fine arts.

Harold D. Jerome Memorial Scholarship.
  Established by Dr. Wilbert Jerome in memory of his father. Awarded on the basis of talent and potential to an undergraduate student majoring in music at the Camden College of Arts and Sciences.

Edward P. and Carolyn Kiessling Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by Edward (CCAS'77) and Carolyn Kiessling to support students in the Honors College at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time undergraduate Camden College of Arts and Sciences students in the Honors College based on academic merit and financial need.

Dorothy Mallery Endowed Music Scholarship.  Established by the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey in memory of Rutgers University Grand Organist, Dorothy Mallery. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students studying music in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences.

George W. and Kay H. Mamo Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by George (CCAS'76) and Kay Mamo in support of students in the Honors College at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time undergraduate Camden College of Arts Sciences students in the Honors College who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need.

Frank W. Mannella Memorial Scholarship.
  Established by Chuck Mannella (CCAS'70) in memory of his father. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences who reside in Somerdale, NJ, upon their graduation from Sterling High School in Somerdale, NJ; based on financial need.

Gloria H. Moffatt Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by James Moffatt, a longtime member of the Department of English at Rutgers-Camden in memory of his wife. Awarded to full-time undergraduate Camden College of Arts and Sciences students majoring in English who have demonstrated commitment to public or community service.

Moré
Family Scholarship.  Established by Paul Moré (CCAS '65), scholarships are to be awarded to full-time students who are a minimum of four years from high school and are in their junior year majoring in one of the following departments:  biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or psychology; based on academic merit and financial need.

Jack and Mary O'Malley Endowed Scholarship. 
This endowed scholarship is established by Jack and Mary O'Malley to be awarded to full-time undergraduate students.

Jeanne and Lewis Romer Scholarship.  Established by Jeanne (UCC'79) and Lewis (UCC'76) Romer in support of adult students at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time nontraditional students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences or University College-Camden.

The Rotary Club of Camden Scholarship.  Awarded to a transfer student or a student from the city of Camden.

Teresa B. Saltiel Annual Scholarship. 
Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences who are formally accepted and participating in the Teacher Preparation program.

Alfredo Santiago Endowed Scholarship. 
Established by Dr. Gloria Bonilla-Santiago in memory of her husband who was an employee of Rutgers. The scholarship is awarded to full-time first year students graduating from the LEAP Academy University Charter School, based on academic merit and financial need with a preference to underrepresented students majoring in areas of study such as math, science, engineering, and premed.

Robert C. Sheppard Endowed Scholarship. 
Established at the bequest of Robert Sheppard to support students at Rutgers-Camden. The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have financial need, with preference given to students from Southern New Jersey.

Jay A. Sigler Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by friends, alumni, and family upon the retirement of Dr. Jay Sigler, beloved professor of political science at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to matriculated M.P.A. students or undergraduate students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences majoring in political science. Based on motivation, professional experience, and potential.

Harry S. Trautenberg Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
  Established by Helen Trautenberg and friends in memory of her husband. Awarded to Camden College of Arts and Sciences students majoring in music. Students must show excellence and promise of future growth in piano or organ.

Evelyn E. White Endowed Scholarship.  Established by the estate of Evelyn White (CCAS'53) to assist students studying music at Rutgers-Camden. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences who are majoring in music. Preference to those with a special interest in the study of piano performance.

Harold and Florence Woll Scholarship.
  Established by Dr. Allen Woll in honor of his parents. Awarded to full-time undergraduate Camden College of Arts and Sciences students in good standing in the Honors College or incoming first-year Honors College students.
