Note: Effective October 7, 2014, new students no longer have the option to declare a major in hospitality management. Students who have declared this major prior to that date will be able to complete the coursework necessary to finish the degree with the hospitality major. Hospitality management will now be offered only as track within the bachelor of arts in business administration program. For more details, see http://business.camden.rutgers.edu/baba.
Administered by the Rutgers Institute for Management and Executive Development.
The bachelor of hospitality management program is an outreach program that provides degree completion for adult students seeking to earn their bachelor's degree. It is primarily for those individuals who have an interest in pursuing careers within the hospitality industry in areas such as hotel management, casino administration, food and beverage operations, and other related fields.
To meet the challenges of the service-oriented hospitality, tourism, and entertainment industries, managers need to be both adaptive and innovative with the ability to make quick decisions. These skills are included as learning objectives of the program. The objectives are accomplished through a curriculum based on general education requirements and a special core of hospitality courses that incorporates applied out-of-classroom learning experiences into the course competencies. The learning experience is enhanced through the use of industry professionals as guest professors, while providing the students a networking opportunity with senior executives.
Since many students are employed within the industry, classes are conveniently scheduled in the evenings at the Mays Landing campus.
