Scholastic Standing

At the conclusion of each semester, students' grades are reviewed for academic performance. Students who have not performed well are referred to the School of Business-Camden's (SBC) Scholastic Standing Committee (SSC) for additional review and action, if required. The following is an outline of the procedures used by the School of Business-Camden regarding scholastic standing guidelines and penalties:

Early Alert Warning: An "Early Alert Warning" is issued if it is determined that a student's performance and/or attendance has been unsatisfactory and may jeopardize the successful completion of the course. Students who receive such a warning should immediately meet with the course instructor to responsibly address these concerns. Additionally, they may be required to meet with the Academic Services Office's staff to more fully address these issues.

Academic Warning: An "Academic Warning" is issued to students whose semester GPA is below 2.000 or whose cumulative average is 2.000-2.499. These warnings are intended to alert students of their academic standing and to explore if there are any factors which may negatively impact their performance. More importantly, this action is targeted to be an affirmative intervention to strengthen student academic performance and learning.

Placed on Probation (PP): Students are "Placed on Academic Probation" for having a cumulative GPA of less than 2.000. Students under the PP status will be subject to the following academic conditions:

  1. Enrollment in no more than 12 credits for the next semester of enrollment.
  2. The achievement of a semester GPA of at least a 2.000.
  3. Students are required to meet with the Academic Services Office's staff to develop an academic plan which will lead to the achievement of a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.000.
  4. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO ACADEMIC DISMISSAL.

Students who earn a cumulative GPA of at least 2.000 will be removed from the PP status.

Continued Probation (CP): Students who have successfully met their PP status conditions, but have not achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.000, will be under the "Continued Probation" status and will be subject to the following academic restrictions:

1.  Enrollment in no more than 12 credits for the next semester of enrollment.

2.  The achievement of a semester GPA of at least 2.500.

3.  Students are required to meet with the Academic Services Office's staff to review and adjust their academic plan as needed. Students are also required to meet with an academic services staff member monthly to monitor their academic progress.

4.  FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS MAY LEAD

     TO ACADEMIC DISMISSAL.

Students who earn a cumulative GPA of at least 2.000 will be removed from the CP status.

Academic Dismissal: Students may be subject to "Academic Dismissal" if their academic performance is below a cumulative GPA of 2.000 for two consecutive semesters or if they fail to satisfy any of the conditions of their probationary status.  Dismissed students may submit an appeal of their dismissal to the SBC Scholastic Standing Committee within 10 business days of their notification of dismissal.

Dismissed students are ineligible to reenroll for at least one year, or unless they have completed a minimum of 12 transferable credits, with a minimum GPA  of 3.000. Students who seek reenrollment must petition the Scholastic Standing Committee and provide official transcripts for all coursework completed elsewhere. Applicants for reinstatement must adhere to current policies regarding credit transfer, graduation requirements, and related academic matters in effect at the time of their application. Students should direct all questions concerning reinstatement to the SBC Academic Services Office.
