Advocacy Studies

The law school provides an extensive program of instruction in advocacy studies and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Experienced attorneys teach courses in Pretrial Advocacy, Trial Advocacy, Advanced Trial Advocacy, and ADR. The primary methods of instruction are demonstration and student performance in simulated litigation activities. In order to ensure maximum opportunity for student practice and critique, sections are limited in size. Multiple sections are offered. Some advanced litigation courses are offered in substantive areas-criminal practice, environmental litigation, litigating drug and alcohol offenses, death penalty litigation, and advanced bankruptcy practice, for example-giving students an opportunity to integrate what they have learned in a variety of skills and doctrinal courses. Selected students are invited to participate in mock trial competitions on behalf of the law school.
