Applicants applying for the 2017-2018 school year and beyond should apply through
Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service
(PTCAS).
The admissions process of this joint program is handled through the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions of Rutgers University-Camden. Online application is required (http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu). Supporting documents should be sent directly to the doctor of physical therapy (D.P.T.) program at http://shrp.rutgers.edu/program_overview/physicaltherapy.html.
Applicants for admission to the D.P.T. program must have earned a baccalaureate degree in any field by the time of initial matriculation, completed the Graduate Record Examination (general test only), and complied with all prerequisites for the program. Students should have a balanced liberal arts background prior to application to the program.
Applicants should provide evidence of meeting the physical therapy
experience requirement and address their motivation for the pursuit of a
physical therapy career in the personal statement. Applicants may be
invited to interview with the program faculty if they meet the
requirements for admission.
The D.P.T. program starts accepting applications beginning on
July 15 of each year for admission to the class in May of the following year. Online
applications must be submitted by October 15. All supporting
documentation must be received by November 15.
Complete applications include the following:
1. Two official transcripts of all postsecondary college credits,
including undergraduate degree and program prerequisite courses.
Students must have earned an undergraduate degree prior to entering the
physical therapy program.
2. Official results of the Graduate Record Examination (general
test). Test scores must be received directly from the Educational
Testing Service (code 2092). Applicants are responsible for ensuring
that their official scores are received by the admissions office.
3. Three letters of reference, including one from a college
instructor and one from a physical therapist. Letters may be sent
online. Applicants may submit reference letters in sealed envelopes with
the other supporting documents.
4. A one-page, typed personal statement of the applicant's interest
in physical therapy, personal characteristics, participation in
community service activities, and professional goals.
5. Evidence of completion of all program prerequisite courses prior
to the beginning of classes. A maximum of four prerequisite courses,
including a maximum of two science prerequisite courses, may be
outstanding at the time of application. A program prerequisite
verification form must be submitted with the application.
6. Completed physical therapy experience (volunteer or
paid) form (available on the D.P.T. program's website).
7. International Applicants: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign
Language) scores must be received directly from the Educational Testing
Service. Transcripts of all courses must include English translations of
course titles and conversion to the American credit system. Evidence of
adequate financial resources is required for nonimmigrant students.
All of the above documentation and a completed application form
must be received in order for the application to be considered complete.
