Program

The master of fine arts (M.F.A.) program at Rutgers-Camden offers a distinctive multigenre approach to creative writing. While our students concentrate in fiction, poetry, or nonfiction, they are encouraged to enroll in workshops and craft classes in disciplines other than their own and with teachers who publish across genres. We also welcome theses that bridge two or more genres.

Our multigenre approach leaves our students uniquely prepared not only to write poetry and prose, but also to teach at the college level. M.F.A. students interested in pursuing academic careers have the option of taking graduate courses in Rutgers-Camden's highly regarded Teaching of Writing master of arts (M.A.) track.

Rutgers-Camden M.F.A. students take advantage of a mix of small workshops, craft courses, literature courses, and the celebrated Rutgers Summer Writers' Conference, which offers intensive study with some of the most famous names in poetry, fiction, memoir, and publishing. The program accommodates students whose outside obligations limit their hours of attendance or the number of courses they can complete each semester. Most classes meet in the early evening for the convenience of students with daytime employment.
