Degree Requirements

To qualify for the master of arts degree in psychology, students must

  1. complete 10 3-credit courses, for a total of 30 credits, with a minimum GPA of 3.0; and
  2. complete an independent research project and present it as a master's thesis.

Five courses are required of all students:

  • Introductory Proseminar
  • Introduction to Psychological Science
  • Research Methods
  • Research/Fieldwork Practicum
  • Statistics and Research Design

Consistent with their individual interests, students also select three content courses from among eight to 10 offerings. With the program's approval it may also be possible to include as one of these three a course offered in a different graduate program, such as the master of public administration or the master of business administration.

Finally, two courses are related to planning and completion of the master's thesis:

  • Thesis Supervision, in which a research project is conducted under faculty supervision
  • Thesis Seminar, in which students working on their thesis present and discuss their research
