Nutrition and Dietetics Professions

• By 2024 a master's degree will be required to become a registered dietitian (RD).
• RDs are food and nutrition experts who have met the Commission on Dietetic Registration's (CDR) criteria to earn the RD credential. RDs work in a wide variety of employment settings, including health care, business and industry, community/public health, education, research, government agencies, and private practice.
• According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for dietitians and nutritionists is projected to grow 15 percent through 2026, much faster than the average growth for all occupations.
• More RDs will be needed to care for patients with various medical conditions and to help people improve their overall health.
