The 74-credit joint associate of science degree program in
occupational therapy assistant is offered by Rutgers School of Health
Professions in collaboration with our partner colleges. Students
complete at least 32 general education credits at a college partner as
prerequisite to the 42 credits of professional coursework at Rutgers, on
the Piscataway campus. Admission to the professional phase of the
occupational therapy assistant program at Rutgers is competitive;
completion of the preprofessional
curriculum at an approved partner college does not guarantee
admission (see
Academic Affiliates).
Supervised fieldwork education is provided by Rutgers clinical partners in health care,
educational, and other community settings (see major
Academic Affiliates).
The professional coursework supports the program's mission emphasizing human
occupation and adaptation, the process of becoming an occupational therapy (OT) professional, and the
required competencies and contextual influences of OT practice.
The program uses web-enhanced design for most courses and one course is conducted
exclusively by web-based instruction requiring:
