To be considered a full-time student in the Newark College of Arts and Sciences, an individual must carry a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Students may carry between 1 and 19 credits, but not more than 19 credits per semester without written permission:

• For Newark College of Arts and Sciences and University College–Newark, from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs
  
• For the Rutgers Business School, from the Undergraduate Program's Dean's Office
  
• For the College of Nursing, from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs
  
• For the School of Criminal Justice, from the Office of Student and Academic Affairs
  

Credit overloads are intended for exceptional students. As a rule, a student must meet all of the following standards for consideration for a credit overload:

• Cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher
• English 101 and 102 completed
• Math proficiency completed
• Major declared with an academic department
• Successful completion of 24 Rutgers–Newark credits
