Placement Examinations for Entering Students

First-year students admitted into the University College–Newark must take the ACCUPLACER placement test in mathematics and English. However, those students with verbal SAT scores of 550 or higher are automatically placed into English Composition 101. Students with advanced placement (AP) credits in English with scores of 4 or better, and those with AP courses in Calculus I and Calculus II with scores of 4 or better, meet the college proficiency for those areas.

Transfer students who have completed 12 or more college credits at the time of admission may be required to take the ACCUPLACER placement test in mathematics and English. Based on the results of these tests, students are placed into the appropriate mathematics and English courses.
