Prepares the student to
develop a proposal for implementation at the microsystem level. Theories emphasizing horizontal leadership,
communication, problem solving, decision making, and ethical analysis will be
applied to guiding and working within interdisciplinary and diverse care teams
and collaborative partnerships within communities. Requires 75 clinical hours.
Prerequisites: CLDR 6320, 6400, 6440; NURS 5104, 5105; ADHA 5107.

Illness and Disease Management (3)
This course prepares students with the leadership and communication skills
needed to guide clinical staff, advocate for clients, and assure a care
environment that facilitates professional nursing standards and quality of
care. Theories emphasizing horizontal
leadership, communication, problem solving, decision making, and ethical
analysis will be applied to guiding and working within interdisciplinary and
diverse care teams. Requires 60 clinical hours.
Prerequisites: NURS 5104, 5105; ADHA 5107; CLDR 6400, 6440.

Clinical Leadership Role Practicum (7)
A guided experience for students, the practicum requires
supervised field work in a health care institution. In this course the student will implement
the change project approved. Requires 225 clinical hours.
Corequisite: CLDR 6420.

CLDR 6400
Leadership Across the Continuum Theory (3)
Focuses on the theories, behaviors, strategies, and tools related to
transformational leadership. Students will critically analyze theories and
evidence relevant to the influence of transformational leadership on health care
policy, organizational performance, staff performance, and patient safety and
outcomes. Synthesizing theories and
evidence, students will formulate a leadership implementation plan. Requires 35 clinical hours.

CLDR 6440
Quality and Safety in Health Care Theory (3)
Theories, models, and strategies
related to quality and safety practices. Donabedian's framework of
structure, process, and outcome will be used to
organize national and organizational indicators most commonly used by
health care organizations. The student
will critically analyze nursing's influence on patient safety and health
care
outcomes and their impact on organizational performance inclusive of the
selection, measurement methods, and application and reporting methods.
Students will synthesize gaps in quality and safety measurement and
identify areas for potential research and/or education. Requires 35 clinical hours.
Corequisite: CLDR 6400.
