The
Department of Journalism and Media Studies (School of Communication and Information) and the Department of Women's and Gender Studies (School of Arts
and Sciences) offer an innovative cross-disciplinary minor in gender and media.
The minor is designed to promote hands-on
production informed by theoretical tools. Students will acquire technical skills as media producers with the
ability to add their own critical voices and unique perspectives. Students will also acquire critical thinking
skills that enable them to critique and improve current conditions of media
production and consumption. Upon
completion of this minor, students will be better able to articulate, create,
examine, inform, and improve systemic and individual power dynamics of the
contemporary landscape for gender and media.
The gender and media minor helps
to prepare students for careers in a number of relevant fields: journalism,
media studies, filmmaking, advertising and marketing, public relations,
business and management, social services, public policy, the arts, and many
others.
