Programs of Study

The three undergraduate majors currently offered by the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) are communication, information technology and informatics, and journalism and media studies. Each major leads to the bachelor of arts degree. All students must satisfy the pre-major requirements and the requirements of their major as well as the academic requirements of the four-year school through which they were admitted to the university. Most SC&I majors are based in the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, but students from schools such as Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick, and the College of Nursing may choose a second major at SC&I. Students maintain their affiliation with their undergraduate school while enrolled at the School of Communication and Information.

The minor in digital communication, information, and media is open to students from all Rutgers schools. Students should check with their four-year school to determine if the minor fulfills requirements for that school or will count as elective credits. (New Brunswick School of Arts and Sciences students may use the program to fulfill their minor requirement.)

Students are urged to check the School of Communication and Information website (http://comminfo.rutgers.edu) for the latest requirements and course offerings. The school reserves the right, for any reason, to change or modify any course or program listed.
