Credit by Examination

A maximum of 45 credits by examination may be used toward a baccalaureate degree. These credits may not be offered to satisfy the college residency requirement.

Credit by examination can be obtained through the following methods: (1) individual examinations offered by the academic departments of Rutgers; (2) the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) offered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 08541; (3) the Thomas Edison College Examination Program (TECEP) offered by Thomas Edison State College, 101 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08625; or (4) Prior Learning Assessment offered by Thomas Edison State College. Prior approval by University College-New Brunswick is required before seeking credit through examination; approval by the major department also is required for credit in the major field. Information on eligibility and procedures is available in the Office of Student Services or the Office of the Dean.
