Timothy J. Cleary



Ph.D., CUNY Graduate School and University Center

Timothy J. Cleary is associate professor and chair of the Department of Applied Psychology in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP). He specializes in the development and evaluation of self-regulated learning (SRL) assessment tools and applied intervention programs in academic, sports, and clinical contexts. Dr. Cleary has published three books and over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters addressing SRL concepts, and has received several grants from federal agencies and foundations to support his research. In recognition of his research accomplishments, Dr. Cleary was recently named a Chancellor's Scholar at Rutgers. He teaches doctoral-level classes in learning disabilities and academic interventions, and an undergraduate class targeting success in school. He is a member of several editorial boards, served six years on the executive board of the Studying and Self-Regulated Learning SIG of AERA, and has consulted with school districts and colleges throughout the United States regarding evidence-based SRL and motivation practices.
