Transfer Student Policy (Graduate)

The Bloustein School at Rutgers welcomes transfer students from other institutions into its graduate degree programs. As such, there are certain requirements in order to transfer from another program/institution to one of our programs.

First, all transfer students MUST apply with a graduate application to the program of choice, by stated deadlines, for the term in question. The application must contain all required documentation as outlined by the admissions website.

Second, upon admission and acceptance by the student, he or she must enroll and complete 12 credits in the program of study at Rutgers Bloustein School prior to officially transferring in credit from the previously undertaken degree program. The student would use the "Application for Transfer of Credit" form found in the Student and Academic Services Office.

The official transfer of this credit for a graduate student has the following requirements:
You have completed 12 credits of graduate level course work with a grade of B or better in one of the Bloustein School graduate degree programs. Transfer of credit is allowed only for formal graduate level course work specifically related to the student's program of study in which a grade of B or better was received. No credit may be transferred for thesis research work, course work done as an independent study or work in courses which were not graded. Grades of P, R or S are eligible for transfer if equivalent to a grade of B or better and accompanied by a letter from the instructor of the course testifying to that equivalency.

Credit is not normally transferred for courses taken more than six years prior to the application for transfer of credit. Appeals for waiver of this time limit may be made to your graduate director, with a statement verifying the current level of the student's information on the subject or that the course material is still current.

For transfer of graduate courses taken as an undergraduate student or toward another graduate degree, it must be shown that the course(s) was (were) not used toward another undergraduate or graduate degree.

In all cases, no more than 25% of the credits (required for the individual program degree may be transferred from an outside institution). Quarter credits will be converted o semester credits by reducing the total by ½ (i.e., 9 quarter credits = 6 semester credits.)
