Executive M.P.A. Program

The Executive Master of Public Administration (E.M.P.A.) degree is designed for practicing professionals and managers with at least six years of public, nonprofit, or relevant private sector experience. The E.M.P.A. provides seasoned managers and professionals with opportunities to prepare for leadership roles in their organizations. The E.M.P.A curriculum parallels that of the master of public administration (M.P.A.), but also is tailored to emphasize current management processes with a focus on leadership, accountability, and strategic management. Students accepted into the E.M.P.A. join a cohort group that completes the curriculum together over a two-year period, attending classes two days a week, generally one afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Candidates for the cohort must be recommended by their supervisor and other professional peers. Currently there are two locations for the E.M.P.A. degree: one in the Trenton, New Jersey, area and one at Newark City Hall. The Trenton cohort begins in January of each year and the Newark cohort begins in June.

The E.M.P.A. degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).
