Liberal Arts Tradition

From its inception, the Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) has prided itself on combining the best of the liberal arts tradition with excellence in professional and preprofessional training. Students enrolled in NCAS enjoy a wide variety of course offerings and can choose from majors in nearly 30 fields. The college's curriculum provides students with a strong liberal arts foundation and access to training necessary for pursuing specialized careers. Students are able to benefit from a broad range of educational and research opportunities that a major state research university offers, but also experience an intimate campus setting that features a 14-to-1 student-faculty ratio.

Students can also be selected to participate in the Honors College at Rutgers University-Newark. The Honors College gives students an outstanding educational foundation, while providing them with the practical skills and experience they need to achieve professional success beyond the classroom. Honors College students are able to take advantage of a variety of opportunities offered by one of the country's largest and most well-respected research institutions, while benefiting from individual attention, personal access to faculty and staff, smaller class sizes, and a socially vibrant campus atmosphere typically found only at smaller liberal arts colleges. The Honors College allows students to excel and achieve their goals by expanding their minds, broadening their horizons, developing useful professional skills and contacts, and encouraging them to play an active and constructive role in the world.
