Academic Advising

First-year students
are advised by the assistant dean for first-year students from the School of Engineering Office of Academic Services.

Upper-class students are advised by the department faculty members in their major curriculum with the support from the School of Engineering Office of Academic Services.

Students are required to consult their advisers at least once each semester prior to registering for the next semester. Students must assume full responsibility for conforming to the academic regulations of the school and for taking specific courses required in the appropriate semester for the chosen curriculum. Students also must be careful to ascertain that they have the proper prerequisites for any course for which they register. Students are encouraged to consult the deans and advisers at School of Engineering Office of Academic Services and members of the engineering faculty for advice regarding their educational or professional development.

Degree Navigator.  Students should routinely consult the Degree Navigator system (nbdn.rutgers.edu) throughout their course of study at the School of Engineering. This program provides useful information for monitoring progress in the major, the minor, and the School of Engineering general education curriculum. It is meant only to be a tool and not a substitute for consultation with an academic adviser.
