Admission

Admission to the master of fine arts (M.F.A.) degree program in theater arts is based on transcripts of previous academic records, three letters of recommendation, a 200- to 500-word statement of purpose, and the following additional requirements:

Acting. An audition consisting of two contrasting monologues, one classical and one contemporary (not to exceed a total of five minutes), and an interview.

Design and Costume Technology. An interview and presentation of a portfolio containing renderings, production photographs, drafting, light plots and production books, and any nontheatrical works that demonstrate artistic aptitude.

Directing. A minimum of three professional directing credits is required. Send a résumé and a short video or production photographs to the graduate program director. A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 is preferred. Candidate may be invited to interview.

Playwriting. Two, full-length scripts are preferred, but one-act plays are acceptable; should be sent to the graduate program director. Not all candidates will be invited to interview.

Stage Management. An interview is required of all candidates. In addition to the interview, prospective stage managers should present production prompt books, samples, or drafting and/or lighting plots, and any other material that demonstrates the applicant's theater background.

Audition/Interview Fee. In addition to the university's application fee, there is a $75.00 fee for the audition or interview.
